Real Madrid may have gotten Trent Alexander-Arnold and a host of other Liverpool targets in the past, but they have been ruled out as a possible destination for one player the Reds previously wanted.
The Spanish giants have become something of a spoiler for Liverpool, having beaten the Reds to many of their targets in the past.
Alexander-Arnold, who had his Real Madrid unveiling on Thursday, is the latest player to have been snatched away from Liverpool by Los Blancos.
While the former Liverpool defender was not a fresh signing, Arne Slot really wanted to keep him.
However, he decided to move to Spain, joining up with his international teammate and friend, Jude Bellingham, who was also a former Liverpool target Real Madrid snatched.
Earlier in the transfer window, it appeared that Los Blancos were going to secure the signing of Liverpool-linked Angelo Stiller.
But several reports indicated that the German footballer would not join the Spanish club.
Another player, who was previously linked with a move to Madrid, has now been ruled out of a move to Santiago Bernabeu.
The player in question is Martin Zubimendi.
Liverpool were keen on the Spanish midfielder last summer, and were willing to pay his release clause and offer him a competitive wage, better than what he currently earns at San Sebastain.
However, his affiliation with his boyhood club couldn’t be broken, and he decided to remain in Reale Arena.
But his future is once again subject to speculation as he is being linked with a move to Arsenal and Real Madrid.
Several reports have previously indicated that Zubimendi was Arsenal-bound.
However, recent reports emerged, suggesting that Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso wanted Zubimendi.
The 26-year-old has publicly admitted to being a fan of Alonso growing up.
So it was thought that the former Liverpool midfielder would bring his protégé to Madrid.
However, a possible Zubimendi move to Real Madrid has been ruled out?
This is according to Spanish journalist Joaquin Maroto, who revealed that the Spain international would not join the La Liga giants.
“Last week I told you that Stiller wasn’t coming, that Nico Williams wasn’t coming either, and now I can confirm that Zubimendi, in the end, won’t be coming either,” he wrote on X.
